Mt. Everest General Information Trip Overview The seduction of Mount Everest has long been known to travellers, climbers and adventurers alike. The region of the Sherpa people is famous not just for its fabulous peaks but also for its people, those of the Khumbu region whose tremendous ability have been the lifeline for many Westerners wanting to climb in their home area. Surrounded by the world of Tibetan Buddhism this expedition is more than just a trek, it is for many a pilgrimage to one of the most remarkable countries on earth. Reaching Everest Base Camp is a feasible goal for most fit trekkers; it is a well trodden path but this should not put you off. Each individual will leave with memories that will last a lifetime. Added to that the convenience of a staff of Sherpas who will make the
necessary arrangements for food, yaks, porters and tentage along the route,
leaving you to enjoy the stunning mountain scenery that each day will
bring. The Climate The main trekking season in Nepal is from October to mid May when daytime temperatures at most altitudes are generally comfortable for walking, the sky is clear much of the time and rain and snow are occasional occurrences. Daytime temperatures will vary from 20 C to 35 C in the Kathmandu Valley to around 10 C at 3,600m and progressively lower the higher we go. In the early morning, evening and at night on trek the temperatures will be considerably lower, sometimes dropping as low as -5C on spring departures to as low as -20 C at the highest altitudes on the winter departures. (Please note that on the winter departures although the daytime temperatures are usually pleasant the nights will be extremely cold with temperatures down to -20 C at the highest altitudes.). In general autumn temperatures are about 5 C lower than those in spring. The skies and views are clear in autumn whereas in spring there will be some cloud build up in the afternoons. Snow can be expected on any departure usually at the top end of the trek. Is it difficult? Just like our treks to Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Everest Base Camp trek does not involve any 'climbing'. Anybody with a reasonable level of fitness can be expected to successfully and comfortably take part in this trek. However, it must be bourne in mind that on this trek we will hike for 10 days, reaching an altitude of 5,545m. This is not to be underestimated, and we encourage our trekkers to ensure that they have trained adequately before setting out.
