Launch of the Feile Sherehe Video

The official launch of the ChildAid documentary video 'Féile Sherehe' took place on Tuesday 4th November in Tallaght Institute of Technology.

The launch was attended by Mr. Tom Kitt, TD, Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Overseas Development Assistance and Human Rights, Department of Foreign Affairs and The Mayor of South Dublin County Council Cllr Maire Ardagh.

The video was produced and directed by Carol Fitzmaurice and Grainne O'Connell, Audio Visual Media students at Institute of Technology Tallaght, with the support of the Students Union.

The video depicts life in the slums of Nairobi for families displaced by war and migration. Documenting the work of Childaid, the voluntary charity organisation, the film follows a Street Festival and Carnival in the district, marking the opening of a new school at KwaNjenga, in the Mukuru district, funded by the Irish Government - Development Cooperation Ireland and Childaid.

The launch was preceded by a student debate on the topic:

'Education' - Is it the Solution to Third World Poverty'

and was accompanied by an exhibition of photographs taken by volunteers during their visit to Nairobi.
